Run read-only Redis commands
The Redis query editor accepts only read commands. DevOpsPad checks the command name before sending anything, so SET, DEL, FLUSHDB, CONFIG and EVAL never reach the server. Write a command the way you would in redis-cli, for example HGET user:42 email, and press ⌘ / Ctrl + Enter.
When a key or argument contains spaces, write the command as a JSON array instead: ["GET", "a key with spaces"].
Allowed commands
| Purpose | Commands |
|---|---|
| Connection and server | PING, INFO, DBSIZE |
| Key metadata | TYPE, TTL, PTTL |
| Strings | GET, MGET, GETRANGE |
| Hashes | HGET, HLEN, HSCAN |
| Lists | LRANGE, LLEN |
| Sets and sorted sets | SCARD, SSCAN, ZCARD, ZSCAN |
| Streams | XRANGE |
| Keyspace | SCAN |
Command names are case-insensitive. Anything else returns an error that lists the read-only commands, and nothing is sent to Redis.
Two ways to write a command
Space-separated, for simple arguments:
SCAN 0 MATCH order:* COUNT 100
HSCAN user:42 0 COUNT 50
LRANGE queue:emails 0 49
A JSON array, for arguments with spaces, quotes or other special characters:
["GET", "a key with spaces"]
Space-separated input does not understand quotes: GET "my key" is sent as two arguments, "my and key". Use the array form instead. Keys opened from the Explorer always use the array form, for example ["TYPE", "session:abc"].
Reading large values
The whole reply must fit in 8 MiB. A larger reply is rejected with: Redis response exceeds the 8 MiB preview limit; use GETRANGE, bounded ranges, or SCAN with a smaller COUNT. Read large values in slices:
GETRANGE big:blob 0 65535
LRANGE big:list 0 999
XRANGE events - + COUNT 100
ZSCAN leaderboard 0 COUNT 200
To keep reading after a HSCAN, SSCAN or ZSCAN, rerun it with the cursor from the previous reply. A cursor of 0 means you have reached the end.
Results
The reply appears in a single response column. Arrays, such as the result of MGET or SCAN, are shown as JSON. You can filter, inspect and export results to CSV like any other result.
Limits
- No write commands, no
EVAL/FCALL, noMULTI, noSUBSCRIBEorMONITOR. KEYSis not allowed. UseSCAN; see browse Redis keys with SCAN.- Commands run against the connection’s database index.
SELECTis not allowed; edit the connection to change the index. - Responses are capped at 8 MiB, and every request has a 20-second timeout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run SET or DEL in DevOpsPad?
No. The Redis editor only accepts a fixed list of read commands. SET, DEL, EXPIRE, FLUSHDB and every other write command are rejected before anything is sent to Redis.
How do I query a Redis key that contains spaces?
Write the command as a JSON array of arguments, for example ["GET", "a key with spaces"].
