Restore query drafts after restart
Draft recovery is off by default. Turn on Settings → Restore query drafts on startup and DevOpsPad brings back your open tabs the next time it starts: query text, tab titles, connections, database and context scopes, and which tab was active. Results are never saved, and restored queries never run automatically.
Turning recovery off deletes the saved copy. Tabs you have open stay open.

Turn it on
- Click Settings at the bottom of the left rail.
- Under Workspace recovery, check Restore query drafts on startup.
- Close Settings. DevOpsPad saves a copy right away, and again whenever your tabs change.
To force a save, click Save recovery copy now in the same section.
What is saved and what is not
| Saved | Not saved |
|---|---|
| Query text | Results |
| Tab titles | Errors |
| Connection IDs | Query history |
| Database, context and namespace scopes | AI messages |
| Active tab and selected connection | Connection credentials |
The copy is plain text in the app’s local storage on this device. Query text itself can contain sensitive values, and it is not encrypted.
When drafts are saved
- 300 ms after your last change.
- When the window is hidden or the page is about to close.
If the app is force-quit or crashes, the latest edits from the last fraction of a second may be lost.
What happens on startup
DevOpsPad restores the tabs and selects the previously active one. Tabs whose connection was deleted are removed, but only after connection metadata has loaded successfully, so a temporary error does not discard them. Normal resource discovery runs when a connection is selected; your queries do not.
Limits
- Up to 100 tabs per workspace.
- The saved copy is capped at 2,097,152 UTF-16 code units of JSON. The webview’s storage quota may be lower.
- If saving fails, DevOpsPad shows an error and keeps the previous good copy. Close unused tabs or click Turn off recovery and clear saved copy.
- If the saved copy cannot be read, recovery stays off and the copy is left untouched.
- Use one DevOpsPad window. Changes from two windows are not merged.
Frequently asked questions
Does DevOpsPad run my queries again when it restores them?
No. Restored tabs contain only the query text and scope. Nothing runs until you press Run query.
Are restored drafts encrypted?
No. Draft text is stored unencrypted in the app's local storage on your device. Do not keep passwords or other secrets in query text if you turn recovery on.
