SSH password authentication

Choose Password under SSH authentication and enter the SSH password. DevOpsPad saves it in the OS keychain, in an entry separate from the database password, and sends it only to the SSH server you configured, after the server’s host key has been verified.

Password authentication works only if the SSH server allows it. Many servers disable it (PasswordAuthentication no in sshd_config); in that case use a private key or the SSH Agent.

Steps

  1. In the connection dialog, check Connect through SSH tunnel.
  2. Fill in SSH host, SSH port and SSH username.
  3. Set SSH authentication to Password.
  4. Enter the SSH password.
  5. Set up host key verification. See verify host keys.
  6. Click Test connection, then Save connection.

Changing or removing the password

  • To change it, open Edit connection and type the new password. A blank field keeps the stored one (Saved in keychain · leave blank to keep).
  • Switching to Private key or SSH Agent, or turning the tunnel off, deletes the stored SSH password when you save.
  • Deleting the connection deletes the SSH password from the keychain.

What is not supported

  • Keyboard-interactive prompts, such as one-time passcodes or “Verification code:” challenges. Servers that require them for every login cannot be used.
  • Password plus a second factor in the same login.
